Are you an outdoor and nature photographer looking to survive or
better yet, prosper in this business? Are you a
great photographer with a file of fantastic images ready to show
and sell to the world? There are thousands of great
photographers, but being great is not enough to survive in
today's markets. And that file of fantastic images is worthless
until a client pays to use them.
How is your business setup and
run? Have you researched what photo subjects are in demand? Is
your strategy to go shoot pretty pictures and hope someone pays
to use one?
Do you have an eye for the perfect image? Can you edit out the
non-sellers and keep the winners? Are you diligent in your
marketing and self promotion? Not sure about Royalty Free or
Rights managed?
What will
you charge when a client calls? When the client says "no" to
your price can you turn it around and make the sale? Outdoor and nature stock photography is a
business and those that prosper run theirs with the clients and
markets in mind.
It is all those subjects and more that are the reason behind the
The Business of Outdoor and Nature Photography workshop. We'll
show you how to identify your prospects and shoot for them,
learn how to find those markets,
and promote your business effectively. We'll dig deep into
understanding what
the markets demand, examine conceptual shooting, and how you can
create product for those markets, how to price usages, and negotiate the
final sale. We'll look at stock photo agencies and the pros and cons of Royalty
Free, Rights Managed, and Microstock.
This is a business! Ask any full time professional outdoor photographer and they
will tell you that it's no easy task. It takes devotion and
hard work, yet there is no more fulfilling a "career" than
being a full time Outdoor and Nature Photographer.

photographer in 1994, after he turned in his chalk as a high
school English teacher and began showing his book to advertisers
in New York. In 1997 he moved to Portland Oregon, and in 2000

market. Today the agency is greatly expanded and markets a
large Royalty Free and a Rights Managed collection online and

the narrative quality in a stock photo. What story is the
picture telling me? If a photo has a narrative and a concept,
