Are you
motivated to be a commercial photographer?
Why do we
do what we do as photographers? We all photograph for our own
reasons. For most of us, photography is a long journey, starting
with capturing images that might be considered snapshots such as
a vacation or family celebration. Many of us are satisfied with
the snapshot while others dig for deeper meaning by seeking to
convey their inspiration and emotions of what they felt when
they photographed.
Some
photographers are more motivated more than others to learn and
compete in this business. The awesome feelings that come with
capturing or creating a great photograph followed by the freedom
of self employment is the biggest draw. The most important
aspect to learn is accepting that this is a business where you
photograph for someone else and no longer just for yourself. The
reward for a great shot is a paycheck.
I receive
comments all the time: "Oh you are a photographer, that must be
fun". I think 'Well it is fun, but it is also very hard work,
demanding hours, and requires non-stop perseverance.' Ask
yourself: "Do I want to be a photographer because it sounds fun?
Or do I have a passion for photography that I cannot satisfy any
other way but through photography?"
There are
clients who will be tough to work with, some who take forever to
pay, and others who are a dream to serve. Cash flow will be like
a roller coaster, rich one month and poor the next. But those
are normal aspects of business ownership. It is the times you
get to travel, maybe to exotic places, or the assignments where
you meet very interesting people with interesting jobs, or
possibly the boring assignment that pays extremely well, that
make this a career one to be reckoned with.
The path you choose to
take is totally up to
you. Should you choose to enroll in this course, you will be
encouraged to explore and create and also pushed to produce
images that allow you to compete in the market. We wont sooth
any egos, rather show you the reality of this business from day
1. We will provide the tools, techniques and answer your
questions knowing within months you will be working in the
business. What we wont provide you is the motivation but rather
inspiration for you to pull out all the stops. To succeed,
you must motivate yourself because without motivation, there will
be no business for you to run.
No matter
where your motivation or need to photograph comes from, you must
first have a desire to create and a willingness to work hard
everyday. You will not be able to measure your success
completely by the money you deposit in the bank, but also on the
life experience that this career will bring you. We have
designed the course to provide you the foundation in which to
build a business and prosper.
Now ask yourself, "Am I motivated?"
