Turning
away from a corporate career, Brenda Tharp has continually focused her
vision and honed her craft in making dynamic and expressive photographs for
the past 20 years. She has worked for a variety of clients, some of which
include AT&T, Audubon, British Gas, Costa Rica Tourism, The Presidio Trust,
The Grove Resort (London), Mexico Tourism, National Park Service, Nature
Conservancy, Northwest Airlines, Outdoor Photographer, and Sunset Magazine.
Her stock images are used by a wide range of travel and outdoor
publications, including Alaska Airlines Magazine, Bicycle Magazine,
Chronicle Books, Michelin Travel Guides, National Geographic, Navigator, and
Outdoor Photographer. Her
pictures have appeared in calendars published by Audubon, The Sierra Club,
Day Dream Calendars, Avalanche Publishing, Browntrout, The Nature
Conservancy, Tide-Mark Press and others, along with greeting cards by many
of those same companies.
She photographed the award-winning books Muir Woods: Redwood Refuge,
and Marin Headlands: Portals of Time, (GGNPA). Her own excellent
book, Creative Nature and Outdoor Photography, was published in May
2003.
Brenda is known for her graphic, color details of nature as well as for her
travel and outdoor landscapes that express a sense of place. She has has
solo exhibits and has fine art images included in private collections across
the country.
Brenda has spoken to thousands of people across the country, presenting
inspirational 1-day and keynote programs for a variety of audiences,
including The Mountaineers Club, ASMP, NANPA, Sierra Club, various Camera
Club Council Conferences, and Photo Plus Expo West.
An impassioned teacher, Brenda conducts workshops throughout the country for
Rocky Mountain School of Photography, Maine Photo Workshops, Palm Beach
Photo Workshops, Pt. Reyes Field Seminars, as well as offering some private
tutoring and workshops. She is enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge of
the art of photography and is known for her gentle yet honest critiques.
Brenda also leads photography tours internationally. She brings a passion
for seeing, and an untiring enthusiasm for teaching, to all her workshops.
