Slickrock and Slots:                                         The Northern Arizona Landscape          w/ Brenda Tharp

October 26th - 30th, 2008                Workshop Full
Page, Arizona is situated on a mesa in northern Arizona and is the gateway to many of the magnificent scenery of N. Arizona. Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Lake Powell and the scenic treasures of the Navajo Nation are all in easy reach of Page. Starting as a company town in the 1950's, Page was built for the construction of Glen Canyon Dam in the 1960s. We will use Page as our launching site to some of the most spectacular desert scenery in the SW.

Join professional photographer Charlie Borland and Brenda Tharp for an incredible photo experience exploring one of the most interesting locations in the west. We will make our base in Page and from there we will spend our days exploring the nearby slot canyons, multi colored rocks, side canyons, Lake Powell, and some unusual geological rock formations.

You two are the dynamic duo!

Open to photographers of any skill level, this workshop will be a invigorating photography experience with plenty of time for personal photographic exploration. The program is informal with plenty of shooting and no classroom time. The emphasis will be on landscape and nature photography for either film or digital photographers. By combining beautiful locations with excellent instruction, we’ll help you come away with the kind of images you seek. This workshop is founded on the idea that you will learn more by doing photography in the field than simple classroom instruction.

Our casual field lectures will cover such subjects as:
Controlling depth of field
Getting proper exposure                           The digital histogram
The best filters to use and when
Why you cannot always trust your exposure meter
Making stronger compositions                                         Flash Photography

Workshop Agenda.
The dates are Sunday October 26th through Noon Thursday October 30th, 2008. The workshop will begin at NOON on the 26th.  Monday the 27th through Wednesday the 30th, we will explore the vast scenery that this beautiful desert provides. Thursday the 30th will be a morning session only followed by a final meeting and critique of our images. Workshop will end at approximately 2:00 pm. (Our schedule each day may change  depending on weather or other conditions.)
Photo Equipment
The Landscape Workshop is for digital and film photographers and proper equipment is crucial to your successful workshop experience. You can use 35 mm SLR’s, 2 ¼, or 4x5 format. The variety of lenses is up to you, but a wide angle through telephoto lenses are good choices, such as 28mm up to 200mm. If you have wider angles and longer telephoto lenses, they will get plenty of use. Digital photographers should not forget to bring plenty of flash cards and the means to download them. A sturdy tripod is mandatory for landscape photographers and you should have one in your equipment. Digital photographers may wish to bring a laptop and work on image processing between shooting, and don't forget the flash.
